SO FUNNY. Read this on a plane and laughed out loud so many times. Each chapter starts as one thing and then takes you into another direction. It's so great. I've been reading a ton of essay books lately, and this is one of my faves.Tags : I Know I Am, But What Are You? [Samantha Bee] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Thin . Sorta funny. Was expecting more.
Hilarious and insightful. I love learning these personal bits of Samantha's life.
I've been a huge fan of Samantha Bee for many years, starting from her time as a Daily Show correspondent. I had high hopes for her book. I was sure that she had many hilarious stories from her journey to become host of Full Frontal. Instead, the book is less than memorable coming of age story, focusing primarily on her moody and awkward childhood and early adult years. She has a handful of good one liners, but lacks the storytelling skills that make David Sedaris so enjoyable. Maybe she'll write another book to cover her years in television nothing from the past 25 years of her life and career is covered here.
Why do comics have such a rough upbringing? Samantha Bee had an interesting childhood to say the least. This book had me laughing and appalled at the same time. Quick read -- good book.
I LOVE this book, and Samantha Bee! She is hilarious and intriguing. Her writing feels more like you're listening to your best friend tell you the most facinating story that you've ever heard. Did I mention she's hilarious? I had to get out of bed to read in the living room because I was keeping my boyfriend up with all the stifled laughs that shook the bed so hard that even my dog gave me the stink eye.
Samantha Bee is my favorite of The Daily Show correspondents. I can't imagine anyone else being able to do the segment on NILF, highlighting all the sexy female news correspondents, especially of the Fox News persuasion. This is her first book, and it consists of autobiographical vignettes, mostly from her decidedly different childhood. Her three parents (father, mother, and step-mother) and two of her grandmothers come alive in these pages as quirky, occasionally clueless, and always loving. Most of the stories are from her middle childhood, from age eight to fifteen, and, from her narrative, she seems grateful to have survived it all.
However, this book is NOT an autobiography. The reader will find only hints of her career trajectory and of her relationship with her husband Jason Jones (save for a hilarious adventure at a dude ranch!). We learn only the tiniest bit about her own children, and I found myself wanting to know more about the genesis of her hilarious Daily Show persona and whether it differs at all from her off-camera persona. We can hope that this book is successful enough to engender sequels.
If you enjoy Samantha Bee, you will like this book. Great insight into her life. Love her humor and honesty.
